Tidal to Release New Prince Album in 2019

Jay-Z’s streaming service, Tidal, and the Prince Estate announced that a new Prince album will debut in 2019. The album will feature unreleased songs from the late icon’s vast archive of recordings from his vault.

The album will stream exclusively on the Tidal platform for the first 14 days and will be available to download seven days after it launches. Prince’s estate will also release a physical version worldwide following Tidal’s exclusive.

This album release is separate from an album of unreleased Prince music set to come out in September.

The announcement comes after the  settlement of a legal dispute between Tidal and the Prince Estate. The two parties sued each other in 2016 over the rights to stream Prince’s unreleased music and his entire catalog.

Troy Carter, the estate’s entertainment advisor, said in a statement, “I’m very pleased this is resolved, and we get to honor the relationship between Prince and Tidal with this album. We look forward to fans hearing the new music and experiencing the genius of Prince.”

“Our only goal is to share Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted,” Jay Z said in a statement.
